Overview

Mamlo ("we", "our", or "the app") is a free educational web app for learning Aramaic, a living Neo-Aramaic language. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under applicable privacy law (including the EU GDPR).

Data we collect

Automatically collected

  • Usage analytics page views, lesson completions, and feature interactions via [Vercel Analytics]. This data is anonymised and aggregated. We do not track individual users.
  • Performance metrics Core Web Vitals (load time, etc.) via Vercel Speed Insights. Also anonymised.

Stored on your device

  • Learning progress completed lessons, XP, streak, and spaced-repetition data are stored in your browser's localStorage under the key surayt-progress-v2. This data never leaves your device unless you create an account (see below).
  • Onboarding flag a single flag (surayt-welcomed-v1) to remember if you've seen the welcome message.

Account data (optional)

  • If you create an account, we store your email address and name via Clerk (our authentication provider). See Clerk's privacy policy.
  • With an account, your learning progress is backed up to our Supabase database to enable cross-device sync. This data is protected by row-level security (only you can access it).

Cookies and tracking

Mamlo does not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers. Vercel Analytics uses a privacy-friendly approach that does not require cookie consent banners under most interpretations of the ePrivacy Directive.

If you have an account, Clerk may set authentication cookies necessary for session management. These are strictly necessary cookies and do not require consent.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Delete your account and all associated data, use the "Delete account" option in your profile, or email us
  • Portability export your progress data at any time from your profile page
  • Withdraw consent clear your browser's localStorage to remove all locally stored progress data

Data retention

Guest users: progress data lives in your browser until you clear site data. We have no copy of it.

Registered users: your data is retained for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account removes all data from our systems within 30 days.

Anonymised analytics data (no personal identifiers) may be retained indefinitely for product improvement.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the app. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
